Mario Videla was born in Salta, Argentine. He studied organ and conducting at the Faculty of Fine Arts of La Plata University, later continuing his studies in Germany and Holland.
Mario Videla has played organ recitals in Madrid, Rome, Paris, London, Köln, Lucerne, and other cities of Latin America: Mexico, Perú, Ecuador, Venezuela, Brazil, Uruguay, Chile and Argentina. He made many recordings both as a soloist and as a member of different chamber groups. In addition to different Bach cycles, he recorded the complete organ and clavier works by Domenico Zipoli and many programmes with Latin American Colonial music.
Besides his career as a performer and conductor he has many teaching commitments and is the editor of a didactic series on early music. In 1983 he founded the Bach Academy of Buenos Aires, which he currently conducts and which has won him a solid reputation in Latin America through the performances of lecture concerts. In the last years he has conducted Bach’s Passions, B minor Mass and other major works at the Teatro Colón of Buenos Aires.
Since 1997 he is author and conductor of a radio program dedicated to J.S.Bach’s Cantatas, broadcast every Sunday in Argentina and other countries. At present he is artistic director of the “Asociación Festivales Musicales de Buenos Aires”. In 2006 and 2008 he has been invited to join the jury at the International Bach Competitions in Leipzig. In 1999 and 2009 was member of the jury of the Konex Prizes in Classical Music.
